Why Pet Wellness Should Be a New Year Priority

Losing weight and going to the gym are the most common New Year's resolutions. Having a healthy wellness routine is important because it improves our mood, physical and mental health, and prevents issues in the future. This is the same case with our pets; animals, just as humans, can have their moods and health improved by maintaining a proper wellness routine. It is best to start small, as a large change for your pet could become overwhelming. Goals that fit that criteria would be improving diet quality, increasing gentle daily movement, strengthening immune health, and scheduling regular vet checkups.

Diet Quality: Nutrition is an important aspect of the food you feed your pets. There should be a level of balance that won't harm your pet's digestive system or overload them with a certain food group that could be detrimental to their health. Studies show that 50% of dogs and cats in the United States are overweight, and this could also lead to joint pain, diabetes, and reduce the lifespan of the animals. To help with this issue, you can start measuring meals to avoid overfeeding, rescue treats, choose food brands with healthier ingredients, and add supplements to meals for extra enzymes and vitamin support.

Mobility & Joint Health: Without good mobility, your pets might develop negative joint health. It is important that you encourage your pet to move around more often to avoid stiffness in the legs and to improve their flexibility skills. You can start with some daily habits, such as consistent walks, play sessions with high amounts of movement, warm resting areas to keep the joints hot, and adding joint-supporting supplements to meals.

Strengthening Immune System: The best way to build your pet's immune system is to add supplements to their meals, whether it be in solid or liquid form. These supplements would work well with the foods your pets eat, and when used consistently, they can enhance their health in the long run. Additionally, proper hydration and exercise can elevate the effect. Keeping your pets hydrated can lead to proper digestion, and they absorb nutrients better; exercise can improve the animal’s overall health and can boost immune responses to illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and any chronic illnesses.

Regular Pet Visits: Consistent visits to your local vet are a guaranteed way of making sure that the wellness of your pets is properly being tended to. Hearing it from a professional is the best way to understand the health of your pet when you are not 100% sure yourself on what you would need to focus on. The recommended routine for the vet would be annual exams for adult pets and two-yearly exams for senior pets. These visits would be important to make sure that important factors, such as weight, dental, joint, and internal wellness, are up to par, and if action needs to be taken.

Conclusion

Pets should have the same amount of effort put into their wellness as people do. Look at the food you give your pet and find ways to make it healthier for them by switching ingredients or measuring their meals. Take action to make sure their joints stay active with regular walks and exercise, add supplements to their meals for an immune system boost, and make sure to schedule the vet visits properly to stay in check with their health from professionals.
