Cremation & Aftercare

We understand the importance of these last acts of kindness for your pet, so we select our aftercare providers based on our extremely high standards of care and veterinary approval. You can be rest assured that your pet is being cared for both safely and respectfully throughout this process.

Depending on your location, we partner with both fire and water-based crematories. The process for each option is different. With either option, your pet’s ashes will be returned to you.

1. PRIVATE CREMATION

If you choose Private Cremation, your pet will be privately cremated at a licensed crematory, hand-picked by our team. We choose our crematory based on a number of top-quality attributes. The final, and absolutely most important attribute is that our vets would trust the facility with their own pet.

2. AQUAMATION

Aquamation is a newer method of cremation that is available for both our human and pet loved ones. The scientific name for this water-based process is alkaline hydrolysis. It is the same process that occurs in nature when a body is laid to rest in soil. A combination of gentle water flow, temperature, pressure, and alkalinity are used to accelerate the breakdown of organic materials.

The aquamation process takes anywhere from 1-4 hours depending on the equipment. Aquamation remains are 100% safe as they are simply a mixture of bone materials, minerals, and calcium phosphate. The process is disease free, preventing the spread of infection. Aquamation is safe for crematorium staff and the environment.

Aquamation ashes are very similar to remains left after standard cremation.. Pet parents can choose to memorialize the life of their pet by saving their ashes, burying them in the ground, or scattering the ashes in a special place.

PawsGoodbye and many veterinary professionals endorse aquamation for the environmental benefits that make it much gentler on your pets than other forms of disposal such as burial or incineration.

3. COMMUNAL CREMATION

At PawsGoodbye, our partners offer communal cremation services as a more cost effective way to remember your pet.
